The founder
Marie-Louise van Dedem, the founder of DEDEM, had an international education, culminating in a MA in Modern Asian History. She started her career in the arts related fields, organizing international events in Asia, directing a visual arts foundation in Amsterdam and managing a 19th century castle and estate in The Netherlands.
Inspiration
Her natural inquisitiveness and creativity led her to travel the world, discovering and appreciating the different forms of arts and crafts. She began working with batik in Java and eventually found a way of taking this tradition, its methods and forms, to another level making it accessible for an international public. She created a completely different perspective on batik, developing new designs mixed with traditional ones. The result: an elegant mix between the texture of cashmere, design and colour. Recently new experiments led to new products.
Her inspiration comes from combining different cultures and nature into something simple and yet refined and luxurious, contemporary and cosmopolitan. |
